Effects:
A ship hit by an E.M.P. Missile suffers a number of system shut downs for (1d6)+1 turns(Defender chooses which systems). A ship’s Engineering team can opt to forgo their next action to mitigate the E.M.P.‘s effect by succeeding in a Computer Use check. If successful the ship can ignore (1) system shutdown plus (1) for every (5) points in excess of the E.M.P.’s DC. The number of downed systems is dependent on the size of the missile, plus an additional (1) if the attack was a critical hit.
A ship using the PL7 Magnetic Shield Defense System doesn’t suffer system shut downs so long as it has extra hit-points provided by it’s shield(minimum of 50% of the Damage that would be suffered), rather the shield suffers HP damage per the missile size. A ship using a PL8 Particle Shield or PL9 Deflector Shield will suffer only minimal damage from this weapon, 50% for PL8 and 25% for PL9, as they do not rely on maintaining a stable magnetic field.
For Fire-Linked Missile Launcher Systems firing multiple E.M.P. Missiles: On a successful hit the total number of downed systems in equal to the missile’s base number of downed systems plus 1/2 that base rounded down for each additional missile in the link passed the first.
Example: 2-Fire-Linked Ultra-Light E.M.P. Missiles would inflict (3) system shutdowns or (24d8) points of damage to a shield; or (4) system shutdowns/(24d8)x2 damage if the attack was a critical hit.
